The Lost Year
“When, at last, the storm subsided, the entire world seemed newly born. Sunbeams danced on rain-washed leaves. Curling columns of mist rose from every glade. The forest's colors shown more vivid, its smells struck more fresh. And I understood, for the first time in my life, that the Earth was always being remade, that life was always being renewed. That it may have been the afternoon of this particular day, but it was still the very morning of Creation.”

It’s been a long time coming, but I’m finally putting my work out into the world. I am thrilled that you’re here to be a part of it.
This year, my family and I are living in the jungle in Kalimantan, Indonesia. It’s utterly devoid of materialism here and beautiful. We’re going to take this time to realize our own dreams. I invite you to join me as I share three things –
– the Suncatcher projects we’re doing with Borneo kids at a local school here in Kalimantan
– the adventures that inspire my writing
– my progress taking my books from ideas to being successful, published series
Recently, I’ve been re-reading the Lost Years of Merlin by T.A. Barron to my son. It’s a beautiful middle grades novel about Merlin before he earns that name. Merlin, through an act of anger, starts of raging fire that results in the loss of his own eyesight. But, through a gift from God, he develops a ‘second sight’ – a way to see beyond the limits of his eyes. It takes time for him to grow into this ability. At first, the world is still blurry, but eventually he feels rather than sees. Through this ability he witnesses more than he ever could have before.
I’m not lost in the jungle. If anything, I feel my own ‘second sight’ forming. The way is still blurry, but with time, I hope my visions will all become more clear and vibrant than I could have imagined.
WRITING UPDATE: I am 17% through with the first draft of the Glass-Wielder Chronicle, picking up the pace and now averaging 1500-2000 words a day. It took a while to find the voice — think Neil Gaiman’s dark humor meets 1984 meets kung fu action — but now that it’s there the story is flowing along. I plan to finish it next month.
Interested in being a beta reader? I’m currently seeking beta readers for Blink of the Four Winds. I welcome anyone from any background to read. I want honest feedback about what you like, don’t like, and how the story makes you feel. Reach out to me at hadrian.pollard@gmail.com with the subject titled “BETA READER” for more info.
