Blink of the Four WindS

While humans tread upon the Land, the Four Winds rule the Sky. Gentle is the South Wind, fierce is the North. The East Wind changes and the West is constant. The Four bring balance through conflict and peace. And through their winds do they create magic harvested from trees and bones.
But all Four Winds are dying a slow death. Only Blink can save them.
Tree Magic
BONE MAGIC

Blink Fulnor is convinced her grandmother — Skyma — is still alive. It makes no sense — Blink scattered Skyma’s ashes herself. But Blink can’t deny that she hears Skyma’s voice in the wind. Soon, she is swept out of her city in midwestern America and taken to the Sky World above. Skyma used to come here to harvest magic from the trees. She might still be there. But before Blink can find her, she has to face the South Wind himself and challenge his Long Peace which has caused the Sky World to slowly crumble apart.
TREE MAGIC — a tree magic user (a treeling), can draw magic out of trees and into their body. Most powerful during the summer season, tree magic is derived from the power of life itself. Tree magic takes a particular quality of a tree to grant the user magic. Redwoods, the most massive and most air-filled of all trees, grants the user Redwind — it can blow opponents away with a ferocious breath. Hickory, a tree with particularly hard wood, grants the user Hardhands, which protects their skin with a layer of shaggy bark. Every tree has a different magic. Skyma knew the magic of every tree.
BONE MAGIC — a bone magic user (a boneling) can use bone magic to draw qualities out of their own bodies. Most powerful during the winter months, bone magic relies on death. Bone magic enhances a boneling’s abilities. Arm bone magic draws strength, leg bones draw speed, spinal magic nulls the user from experiencing pain — though all pain experienced when using spinal magic rushes back once the magic wears out. The Lifecutter mastered all bone magics before he was sealed away by Skyma. The Four Winds strive to ensure he never returns.
